[music |I Like Giants - Kimya Dawson]

So I spose you all already know, but Kimya Dawson's playing at the Paramount on the evening of the 25th of June. Tickets are $30 plus booking fee from Slowboat.

I'm totally planning to go, keen to know who else is as well. We can make an evening of it or something.

Also, I found out the other day that my friend Rowan reads my LJ when I make public entries, so... Hi Rowan! /me waves.

[music |Cold And Ugly [Live] - Tool]

Couldn't sleep. Will probably stay up until I need to collapse or something.

If I can stay up for another 12 hours or so, then go to sleep, I might be able to get myself onto "normal people" time. Not that that ever lasts long.

[music |Gotta Get Away - The Offspring]

Light from the camp-fire
Makes reflections in her eyes
Now we are alone.

I read somewhere once that most young people in Britain have never been camping. I'd think that pretty much everyone in NZ has, aren't school camps part of the curriculum or something? Still, that's usually just driving out to a camp-site, setting up tents, staying there a couple of nights and going home again.

Then there's going down the back of a friend's farm and hunting possums. But that's not really camping as you're pretty close to home (even if you do spend the night sleeping in trees, which is not recommended, btw).

While we're very lucky to be able to do these things in our wonderful country, I feel especially lucky to have taken the time to organise a trip with some friends and walk off down a track into the bush for a few days.

I don't really know what I'm saying here, other than that I haven't been camping in quite a while and feel like I should before I lose any free time I have left.

Haiku4u [Nov. 10th, 2007|01:23 am]

[music |Since You've Been Gone - Powderfinger]

We meet under clouds,
You seem hesitant, awkward,
I can only smile.

I read somewhere once that, while meter is important in a haiku, the really key idea is that it should capture a moment.

The moment in that haiku is one that I always remember as it represents very strongly to me, the idea that two people can experience the same moment and both claim to understand it, but feel very different things. They can even think they understand what the other person is feeling, but be so very far from the actuality that it would shock them.

I'm not really sure what I'm on about now, think it's the beer talking. Everyone's a genius after a couple.

Peace, Love and Oriental Poetry.

[music |History of a Boring Town - Less Than Jake]

Hey Everyone,

I need some recommendations of music to study/work to. I have so many different types of music on my computer that when I leave my library on random I keep getting distracted by skipping the ones I'm not in the mood to listen to, or having the change of tempo or style cut through my concentration at the end of each song.

So yeah... what do y'all listen to when studying?

Peace, Love and Ocelots,

Dave.

[music |Lake of Fire - Nirvana]

Just went for a run. First time I've done that in a while. Felt like dying while I was doing it, but now that I've cooled down for a bit, I feel like going again...

Masochist? Probably.

I can see my house from the top of Quetta Street... sorta. It was more a passing thought as I tried to not collapse on the pavement and keep going long enough to complete the loop.

I failed. Didn't collapse but decided I didn't want to keep going and turned back the way I came a little further up the road. I suck, I know.

Time for a drink.

EDIT: Ow, ow, ow! I must remember that I am elderly now and it is important for me to warm down after exercising. Ow.

Hate it when I drop my grey guitar pick on my grey carpet and then have difficulty finding it. It's not that I'm blind or retarded, I can tell the difference between plastic and carpet, but it has a habit of falling under things and not landing where I see it fall.

Annoying!!!

Got a bit lonely earlier, so I looked at pictures of Charles and Chester, the dogs of Drew and Natalie. Charles has a tongue that's even longer than mine! For some reason, looking at pictures of Charles and Chester always cheers me up.

[mood | tired]

No, really, I haven't had a drink all night.

Felt crap most of the day, but well enough to drive off to a friend's house for a little bit of a New Years party.

Having the car, I didn't drink, but it was still a good time. Some people I know seem to think that they can't have a good time without alcohol or a partner. They're pretty sad individuals if you ask me.

Anyway, some New Year's resolutions.

First: Be more decisive.

I'm too much of a push-over and spend too much time trying to work out what I want to do, instead of actually doing things.

Second: Stop trying to micro-manage everything.

I don't need to oversee every detail of everything that goes on. I need to take a step back, relax and let things work themselves out instead of trying to sort it all out myself and letting it all get to me.

Third: Continue to stay clean.

I made the resolution last year (and didn't tell anyone) that I would not take any form of drug, other than medications and alcohol. I've made it through the whole year and plan to carry on in the same way.

I also plan to exercise more, do well at uni and spend less time in front of my computer, but they're minor things.

Oh and go to bed earlier, which is what I plan to do now.

Peace, Love and Ornithology,

Dave.

Busy shizzy. [Dec. 23rd, 2006|11:22 pm]

[mood | sleepy]
[music |Come Together - The Beatles]

So. Work today. Busy as [appropriate simile].

Management found a whole bunch of extra trollies somewhere and decided it would be fun to give me those to shove around as well. I spose it was pretty good thinking, it meant I was able to stand around a bit, rather than solidly pushing trollies the whole time.

The girl I have a little crush on at work has her last shift tomorrow. She's off overseas for half a year. Might see if I can keep in contact with her or something. I dunno... I'm far too shy at times.

Bought two blocks of chocolate today. It was on special, 2 for $5. Turkish Delight and Dairy Milk. The Turkish Delight was good and the Dairy Milk... melted in the car. I'm sure it'll still be edible. Chocolate's good like that.

That's... about all I have to say really. Work again tomorrow, kill me now?

Peace, Love and One thing I can tell you is you got to be free,

Dave.

Something in the water? [Nov. 27th, 2006|12:41 am]

[mood | cranky]
[music |Walking on the Sun - Smashmouth]

I don't know what it is about this weekend, but it seems like a lot of the customers we had coming through work were in a particularly dumb mood.

Yes, we were selling one variety of eggs at 2 boxes for $4. Yes, we are out of that particular product. No, that doesn't mean you can take ANY 2 boxes of eggs you want and expect to pay $4 for the pair.

Also, the guy who didn't find out and write down the number for his pistachio nuts... you're a dumb-arse. I don't know the number for pistachio nuts off the top of my head. Telling me "I got them from the bin over by the vegetables" will not help either. Yes, I do have a list of all the different bin goods we have, but the number on it for pistachios is (inexplicably) wrong. I can understand that you're in a hurry and would rather forego your pistachios than wait for me to find out the number, but throwing the bag at me will not get you any kudos or make me work any faster. You're rude and I don't like you.

However, thank you to my friendly co-worker who suggested that I go and bring the trollies in while the store was relatively quiet. That actually really made my day. I do enjoy pushing trollies more than dealing with Sunday-night-idiot customers, particularly when the weather's pleasant and there's no-one around.

The main reasons for this are:

  • I get to spend time outdoors.

  • Trollies are rarely ever rude to me.

  • I get to sing to myself without causing inadvertent death to anyone.

  • It gets me away from that horrible Christmas themed ad. I dread the next month.

  • The exercise is good for keeping my body in its sexy, sexy, stick-like shape.

Anyway, I know this entry is bitchy sounding and self-indulgent, but I've had a bit to drink and am going to use that to justify it! Huzzah!

Peace, Love and Oedipus,

Dave.
